We work in partnership with Airbus Aerospace & Defence to supply dedicated MRO services, including heavy and line maintenance, to the Royal Air Force’s fleet of A400M Atlas aircraft. Job Purpose
An MAA or Part 66 B Licensed Aircraft Engineer responsible for crew performance and development. This includes and is not limited to, individual performance, competence assessment, training, motivation, performance and discipline. SLE will also be responsible for:
Key responsibilities:
Safety & Quality and HSE:
- Compliance with organisational policies and procedures detailed in the AAGDS MOE and supporting documentation.
- Responsible for ensuring organisational and individual operational safety and security procedures are implemented, including but not limited to:
- Ensuring the production team and any associated working parties adhere to the HSAWA 1974.
- Ensuring compliance using guidance and direction through the MOE including associated procedures and the organisations SMS and H&S policies.
- Driving a 0% injury culture by ensuring team adherence to C.O.S.H.H., Risk Assessments, including the requirement to wear PPE as instructed by COSHH Assessments and SDS information. To challenge those who disregard these rules.
- Delivering Team briefs, ensuring Shift Brief points are communicated from the Management.
- Responsible for carrying out the daily bay safety inspections and 5S is completed to the highest standard at the start of shift. Not limited to, but including staging, tail docking (when relevant). All documentation is completed and signed for such as Wing grip, Fuel Tank Permits and bay specific Risk Assessments. FBZ-130 forms are updated and archived.
- Ensure that Aircraft Ground Equipment (AGE), hand tools and general equipment is maintained in a serviceable, safe, clean and tidy condition, reporting any faulty equipment immediately to the Tool Custodian and carrying out root cause of fault. Reporting negligence, lack of training and trending as necessary.
- Complying with the AAGDS internal reporting requirements.
- To assist the Shift Lead updating local procedures and work instructions as the requirement arises to ensure robust and effective working processes are in place.
People Responsibilities:
- Promote and drive a positive behaviour culture through leading by example. Provide leadership and encourage team development and growth through mentorship and individual engagement.
- Responsible for the leadership of the Production Team:
- Ensure Competency assessments are carried out for Trainees, Fitters and Certifying staff. Liaising with the Training Lead to ensure they are carried out 1 month before expiration to allow for processing.
- Ensuring CLE, and HR are informed through email and update of AMOS of nil show attendees and sickness policy. When individual self-certification and repeated absence reviews are required, these are carried out in a timely manner, NLT 1 shift after HR requesting.
- Review and justify act-up pay in advance with the CLE for each month. Monthly review carried out by Shift Lead. A justification for each event must be populated for approval.
- 1,3 and 6 month probation reviews. (1 month for contractors) During Input Requirements:
- During out of hours act as POC for the aircraft check.
- Acceptance of the aircraft out of hours in lieu of the CLE.
- Take full responsibility and ownership of their assigned work area/ zone for the duration of the shift.
- Allocate the work and monitor to ensure it is carried out in a safe and efficient manner to a high standard adhering to scheduled milestones delivered by the CLE within agreed hours.
- Liaise with CLE to provide accurate estimated defect task times.
- Responsible for ensuring the team duty start/finish and break times are correctly governed and captured within AMOS.
- Raise and complete paperwork accurately and ensure that documentation is promptly and accurately completed by employees under their supervision. Ensuring paperwork is completed by close of play each day.
- Pro-actively manage Team bookings ensuring tasks remain within allotted timescales. Justify and report to the CLE any exceedances.
- To be productive hands on the aircraft as time permits.
- To perform and certify aircraft maintenance IAW Technical Documentation and Company Procedures.
- Account for all material requests across the team. Ensuring materials not used is returned during shift.
- Support the overall management of the check to ensure all targets are met. Post input:
- Support the CLE with effective hand back of input with customer at weekends or out of hours as necessary.
- Ensure the team are booked to tasks and that the schedule is adhered to.
- Pro-actively managing task bookings to prevent over runs, where these do occur valid justification is provided within AMOS and to the CLE
General Responsibilities:
- Daily checks with the Tool Custodian, ensuring SLE tool checks are carried out and procedures are complied with. Carry out spot checks on processes and provide leadership and guidance where necessary.
- To carry out mandated training as necessary to fulfil the role in support of the organisation
- Carry out work as directed by Management Team aiding other staff (any trade) to ensure safe and effective working practices.
- Remain up to date with all Read & Sign notices.
- Any reasonable requirements to support the organisation.
- At request of the business:
- Obtain and exercise company approvals within trade to full extent of their licences held, thereby providing maximum contribution
- Hold Form 1 approval
- Carry out offsite support e.g., AOG, Line.
Essential skills and qualifications
- MAA approved or Licensed self-certifying Engineer, Part 66 B Licence and holding a Level 3 or 4 authorisation on A400M types with C certification approval rights.
- Lead by example with behaviour and as a practicing Engineer.
- Form 1 approval holder
- Has had a Competency Assessment completed and is at a satisfactory level across all areas.
- Ability to lead and work effectively in a team.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the MS office suite of applications to support the organisational reporting policies.
- Excellent awareness of Aviation safety and human factors.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent role model and provide mentoring to the team
